Market Place
Newark on Trent
England

The Clinton Arms Hotel building still stands in the Market Place, although the hotel itself was closed in 1990. The lower floor is occupied by shops. Above, on the first floor, you can see the central window from which Britains future nineteenth century Prime Minister and statesman, W E Gladstone, spoke to the crowds of Newark when he was first elected to parliament as a young MP for Newark in 1832. In later years he became Prime Minister three times.
