James Thomas Reddish (1879-1955) was born in Gordons' Row in Newark (off Northgate near the White Swan) and when only 14 years old was apprenticed to Harry Cook, Watch and Clockmaker of Chain Lane, Newarkand worked for the firm for sixty two years. This picture shows him at his bench in the worshop above the shop. He married in 1907, Emma Cuant, a shcooltecher from Eagle Barnsdale, near Swinderby, Lincolnshire. Thjey moved to 109 London Road, Balderton in 1912, where they brought up there son Ralph, who was born in 1910. Mr Reddish died aged seventy five, in June 1955. The calendar on the wall at the back of this photograph shows October 1929. The following was published on 30 June 1955. Mr. J. T. Reddish Laid to Rest THE funeral took place: at Newark Cemetery on Thursday of Mr. J. T. Reddish of 109, London Road, New Balderton. Mr. Reddish, who died on Sunday evening in Newark General Hospital was 75. Mr. Reddish, who started work as an indentured apprentice at H. Cook, jewel1er and optician, of Boar Lane, Newark, worked at the firm for 62 years. He married 48 years ago and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Reddish; Mr. R. Reddish (son); Mr. H. J. Reddish (brother) and Mrs. I. M. Hooton (sister) Among those present at the Internment were Mrs. E. Reddish (widow), Mr. R. Redd1sh (son), Mrs. I. M. Hooton (sister), (Mr. H. J. Reddish was prevented by illness from attending), Mrs. R. Reddish (daughter-in-law), Mrs. Caunt (sister-in-law), Mrs. Emmington and Mr. K. Lane. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. H. Cook, Miss Briscoe, Mr. Allwood, Mr. R. J. Hayes and other friends. Floral tributes were from: Emma (widow); Ralph, Iris and Jill; Bella, Herbert and Ivan; Mr. and Mrs. Cook (Balderton); Eva (North Scarle); Ethel and Edna (Lime Grove); Fred (New York); Mrs. Hayes and family; Charley Hall and George Jobson; Mr. and Mrs. Noble; Mr. and Mrs. G. Barber; Mr. and Mrs. W. Wheatcroft; Mr. and Mrs. P. Flanagan; Misses G. and N. Smithson; Mr. and Mrs. H. Cook, Mr. and Mrs. K. Lane; Mr. R Crampton; Mr. and Mrs. Allwood; Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Midworth; Mr. and Mrs. W. Hickman and Mrs. Power; Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Mackinder: Mrs. Caunt, Geoffrey and Gordon.
