Situated on the Old North Road (now Mansfield Road), the Guide House was an old farm house where professional guides could be hired and later where fresh coach horses could be obtained. Prior to c 1800 the Old North Road was considered to be the Southern-most limit of Sherwood Forest, and passed through tracts of forest land which necessitated guidance. The building has since been demolished.
