Located behind the Buttermarket in the Town Hall, and leading through onto Middlegate, Newark's indoor covered market was opened in October 1884. This sketch by Mr George Sheppard, Newark's Borough Surveyor, was published in 'The Newark Advertiser' newspaper on 15th October 1884 (page 8).
